Gusts of 80mph hit south-west England on Sunday amid further wind and rain warnings as a new storm battered the UK.

Weather warnings have been extended through until Tuesday as a frosty blast named Storm Herminia by European meteorlogists strikes parts of the UK, in the wake of Storm Eowyn’s record-breaking wind speeds.

Met Office weather warnings are in place across the UK today as the Spanish named Storm Herminia arrives in the UK and Ireland. The Met Office has warned the damage could be more widespread due to the impact of Storm Eowyn.

A further yellow wind warning stretching from the south coast up to north east England is in place from 10pm on Sunday until 7am on Monday, while a rain warning covering southern and central England and Wales is in place until 6am on Monday. Another rain warning over most of Wales will remain in place until 11:59pm on Monday.
