Rory McIlroy brought some life to a sleepy start to the PGA Tour season. Combine his appeal with the glorious views of Pebble Beach, and he delivered a command performance.

McIlroy’s victory marks the third time he has won in his season debut on the PGA Tour. Currently ranked No. 3 in the world, McIlroy said Saturday after his bogey-free round of 65 that he’ll use this week as a jumping-off point for the thick of the season and the four major championships.

Am, and heading into the final round on the Monterey Peninsula, it is perhaps the biggest in the field who is just out sharing the lead. Rory McIlroy was simply brilliant Saturday in the cold and blustery conditions as he navigated Pebble Beach Golf Links in bogey-free fashion en route to a 7-under 65 to sit one stroke behind 54-hole leader Sepp Straka at 16 under.
