KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's law ministry said on Friday it has no record of any documents authorising house arrest for jailed former Prime Minister Najib Razak, as the disgraced former leader pushes to serve the remainder of his sentence at home.

A purported royal document allowing Malaysia's jailed former Prime Minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest was never hidden, the communications minister said on Wednesday.

Malaysia's imprisoned former Prime Minister Najib Razak on Monday won an appeal to pursue his bid to serve his remaining corruption sentence under house arrest. In an application in April last year, Najib said he had clear information that then-King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah issued an addendum order allowing him to finish his sentence under house arrest.

The palace of Malaysia's former king, who granted Najib a pardon and reduced sentence last year, on Jan. 4 issued a letter saying the document existed. Najib's legal team says the government ignored it. Copyright 2025 Thomson Reuters.
