How thunderstorms formThunderstorms need three ingredients to form. There needs to be moisture, rising unstable air and lift. Think of air in a balloon. If you bump the bottom of a balloon, it stays up in the air.
Tornadoes don't just appear out of nowhere. They need the perfect storm to form. It starts when warm, humid air clashes with cold air, which can generate a powerful thunderstorm known as a supercell.
