As flames engulf swaths of Los Angeles, Elon Musk is wielding X to stoke partisan outrage and conspiracy theories about the disaster.

Once considered an environmental champion as CEO of Tesla, Musk now took to X to blame Democrats and DEI for the L.A. fires. When a devastating wildfire hit California in November 2018, a powerful CEO went on Twitter to ask how his company could help.

The publicity was a potential boon for AfD, which has been frozen out of mainstream politics, in part, because its leaders have downplayed Nazi atrocities.

Elon Musk urged Germans to vote for the far-right Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) in an upcoming election in a conversation with its leader on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that highlighted the US billionaire’s growing ambition to sway European politics.

Musk is using his influential social media platform X to endorse the far right in Germany ahead of its Feb. 23 election.

Indeed, Musk suggested that synthetic data — data generated by AI models themselves — is the path forward. “The only way to supplement [real-world data] is with synthetic data, where the AI creates [training data],” he said. “With synthetic data … [AI] will sort of grade itself and go through this process of self-learning.”
