While actress Carey Mulligan has told many an interviewer over the years that she's terrified of singing for work, that certainly hasn't stopped her from featuring her pipes in plenty of films. The latest is Focus Features' The Ballad of Wallis Island (get tickets here),

The actress gives a marvelous performance in this film, starring and co-written by Tim Key and Tom Basden, about a lonely man on a remote British island who brings about a reunion of his favorite folk duo.

It’s never a bad time for a film like “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” but at the moment it feels like a much-needed balm. Modest in scope and made with the lightest of touch, not unlike the lovely folk songs that populate its soundtrack, it’s also deceptively powerful: A gentle ode to moving on, in quirky packaging.
