FOX10 viewers pulled out their phones and their cameras Tuesday as a rare snowfall began to happen on the Gulf Coast.

Snow began to hit the ground in Florida's Panhandle on Tuesday afternoon as a rare winter storm hit the state. A traffic camera in Escambia County captured snow on the highway.

The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research said it has granted a group of Swiss researchers a patent for a device to enhance avalanche warnings.
