Milkesa Mengesha of Ethiopia won the Berlin Marathon in a personal best time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 17 seconds. The time was yet to be made official on Sunday. Compatriot Tigist Ketema won the women’s race in an as-yet unofficial time of 2:16:42.

At the Berlin Marathon, Ethiopia swept the men's and women's titles of an annual World Marathon Major for the first time in three years.

Ethiopia claimed a double victory at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday as Milkesa Mengesha won the men’s competition while Tigist Ketema triumphed over the women’s field. Mengesha, 24, clocked a time of two hours, three minutes, 17 seconds to finish ahead of Kenya’s Cyrbian Kotut in a two-horse race that came down the final kilometre.

BERLIN – Ethiopian duo Milkesa Mengesha and Tigist Ketema won the men’s and women’s races respectively in the 50th edition of the Berlin Marathon on Sept 29. Mengesha finished just five seconds ahead of Kenyan Cybrian Kotut in 2hr 03min 17sec, with both recording personal bests. Haymanot Alew of Ethiopia was third in 2:03:31.

Ethiopians dominated the Berlin Marathon as Milkesa Mengesha won the men’s race and Tigist Ketema claimed victory in the women’s event. Mengesha, 24, ran a personal best time of 2hr 3min 17sec to finish ahead of Kenya’s Cybrian Kotut (2:03:22) and fellow Ethiopian Haymanot Alew.
