A bill spurred by the 2022 death of Katie Meyer, who died by suicide when she was a soccer goalie at Stanford, has become state law in California.

A new California state law, prompted by the death of Katie Meyer and by her family’s Katie’s Save initiative, will provide students with an advisor of their choosing during disciplinary proceedings at California colleges and universities.

Stanford held a women's soccer game dedicated to mental health and did not honor Katie Meyer, the former Stanford goalie who died by suicide in 2022.
