The effort to recall Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao is now in the hands of voters, less than two years since she assumed office.

Election day is fast approaching and one closely watched local race will see voters weigh in on whether or not to recall Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao. This is the first time an Oakland mayor has faced a recall in over 100 years.

Voters are deciding whether to reelect San Francisco Mayor London Breed — the first Black woman in the role — or to pick one of her four challengers in a pricey and competitive race that's heated up over homelessness and public safety.
