San Francisco’s new mayor has been busy. On Thursday, one day after being inaugurated, Mayor Daniel Lurie announced the city would implement an immediate hiring freeze to try and bring the city’s record budget deficit under control.

SAN FRANCISCO - Newly inaugurated San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie appointed a new fire chief on Friday, the department announced. Battalion chief Dean Crispen will replace Sandra Tong, who was appointed by former mayor London Breed in September.

San Francisco saw its lowest crime rates in over 20 years in 2024, according to former Mayor London Breed. Between 2023 and 2024: Reported violent crimes decreased by 14%. Reported property crimes dropped by 31%.
