Pinellas County has lifted its Boil Water Advisory for the southern barrier islands. Sunset Beach on Treasure Island remains without drinking water because of excessive debris, county officials said.

Good news for most residents of Pinellas County's southern barrier islands: Pinellas County Utilities has lifted the boil water advisory for St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and Tierra Verde. Water quality tests confirm that the water in these areas now meets all safety standards.

Pinellas County officials are providing an update on recovery efforts just one week after Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida.

While the advisory has been lifted for St. Pete Beach and Tierra Verde, Sunset Beach and Treasure Island are still without drinking water due to sand and debris covering service valves. There are also 450 properties without access to drinking water due to damage on private property.

Pinellas County Utilities Director Jeremy Waugh says a team of more than 100 continue to work to fix the many issues impacting access to water on the islands.
