Bethesda-based Marriott International plans to lay off hundreds of workers in January. Some 833 employees will be part of a mass layoff that takes effect Jan. 3, the hotel giant said in a notice

Marriott, which is headquartered in Montgomery County, Maryland, is expected to cut corporate jobs. In a statement to DC News Now on Monday, Marriott said that staffing at hotels are not included in the job reductions expected in the first quarter of 2025.

Marriott announced that it would lay off more than 800 employees but said that it wouldn’t affect hotel staffing.

Now that Marriott International has doubled in size over a decade, it saw an opportunity to rethink its organization and restructure for efficiency.
