Renowned Malayalam writer, director, and Jnanpith awardee MT Vasudevan Nair passed away at the age of 91 on Wednesday in Kozhikode.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will observe two days of mourning on December 26 and 27 following the demise of M.T. Vasudevan Nair, hailed as the master craftsman of Malayalam literature. As part of the official mourning,

Nair's extensive body of work during a career spanning seven decades included nine novels, 19 collections of short stories, six film directions, 54 screenplays, and several collections of essays and memoirs.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described MT’s death as “an irreparable loss, both for Kerala in general and the Malayalam literary world in particular.” In a heartfelt tribute, he hailed MT as a literary and cultural colossus whose works, such as Randamoozham and Iruttinte Athmavu, elevated Malayalam storytelling to global recognition.

M.T. Vasudevan Nair, legendary Indian writer and screenwriter, passed away in Kozhikode at 91, leaving behind a rich legacy.
