Jordanians say the country is not a 'banana republic' and reject US proposal to turn the enclave into the 'Riviera of the Middle East'

President Donald Trump insisted Egypt and Jordan will take in Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, dismissing the countries’ refusal to accept people from the war-shattered territory.

Trump floated the idea on Saturday, saying he would urge the leaders of the two Arab countries to take in Gaza’s now largely homeless population, so that “we just clean out that whole thing.”

President Trump declared today that Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip have “no alternative” but to leave the enclave because of the devastation wrought there by Israel in its war with Hamas. Trump suggested that Jordan and Egypt should take in the Palestinians.

Trump said he discussed his vision on a call earlier in the day with King Abdullah II of Jordan and would speak Sunday with President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt.
