Technical problems prevented the electronic scanning of ballots in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, necessitating an extension of voting hours on Election Day 2024.

Voters in one Pennsylvania county will have an extra two hours to vote Tuesday after ballot-scanning machines in some precincts failed to work. Voting in Cambria County is extended to 10 p.m., according to a petition for emergency relief filed in the Court of Common Pleas in Cambria County.

Early on Election Day, Cambria County officials ran into issues with the ballot counting software, causing long lines and potential voters to leave.

On Tuesday morning, social media users began complaining of issues with voting machines in Cambria, Pennsylvania. One user on X, Shawn Sikora, wrote, “Cambria county Pennsylvania, voting machines are not scanning and we are being told to drop them in a lock box and they will scan them later. What the hell is going on.”

Voters who get in line after 8 p.m. in Cambria County will fill out a provisional ballot, according to the Department of State. Other counties can still start reporting unofficial results once the polls close at 8 p.m.

Voting in Cambria County, Pennsylvania has been extended until 10 p.m. today. A Cambria County judge granted an emergency petition filed by the county Board of Elections seeking to extend voting by two hours after a software malfunction disrupted election operations countywide.
