Hedi Slimane has left LVMH’s Celine brand, marking the latest high-profile departure from a fashion label as the industry grapples with a sales downturn.

In 2018, LVMH announced that Slimane would take over from Phoebe Philo as creative director of Celine. Philo had spent a decade in the role but Slimane was quick to make changes, dropping the accent from original brand name “Céline” in a logo redesign and changing up the entire fashion house’s aesthetic.

Michael Rider is the new creative director at Celine, the LVMH-owned fashion house announced on Wednesday. His appointment will take effect in early 2025. He will have the entire creative responsibility of all Celine collections, including womenswear, menswear, leather goods and accessories to couture, the statement reads.

Under the designer’s tenure, the LVMH-owned house became a megabrand with new categories, including menswear and beauty.

Hedi Slimane is leaving Celine after seven years at the helm, the brand confirmed Wednesday morning. He will be succeeded by Michael Rider, an alum of "Old Céline" and the former creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren women's.
