After the vehicle that brought them to space departed for Earth without them, the two Boeing Starliner astronauts finally got an up-close look at the spacecraft that will bring them home next year.

A SpaceX crew set to bring home two stranded astronauts arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, September 29.The crew, which launched from Florida on Saturday, will return to earth in February after a five-month mission,

SpaceX launched the rescue mission on Saturday with two seats reserved for Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who will return to Earth in 2025.

Two astronauts relinquished their seats on a four-person spacecraft so that their colleagues could return to Earth from the ISS, where they’ve been stuck since June.

After their weeklong journey turned into a monthslong stay on the International Space Station, two Boeing Starliner astronauts will soon be united with the spacecraft that will eventually bring them home.

NASA and SpaceX will launch a two-person crew on a Dragon that will be the ride home for the Starliner astronauts stuck in space.

Because NASA rotates space station crews approximately every six months, this newly launched flight with two empty seats reserved for Wilmore and Williams won’t return until late February. Officials said there wasn’t a way to bring them back earlier on SpaceX without interrupting other scheduled missions.
