The New York Islanders have claimed defenseman Adam Boqvist off waivers from the Florida Panthers.

On Sunday, Florida sent blueliner Tobias Bjornfot to the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers following Aaron Ekblad’s return from injury. That left seven defensemen on the Panthers roster: Ekblad, Gus Forsling, Niko Mikkola, Dmitry Kulikov, Nate Schmidt, Uvis Balinskis and Adam Boqvist.

Another day, another new defenseman. The Islanders claimed Adam Boqvist off waivers from the Panthers, adding another depth piece to their blue line — their third new defenseman in the last seven days.
