The Lonely Planet Guide describes Orakei Korako as "arguably the best thermal area left in NZ" Come and explore a volcanic world of gushing geysers, hot springs, bubbling mud pools and some of the largest and most amazing silica terraces in the world. Wander through the Hidden Valley and visit the thermal Ruatapu Cave which extends down into volcanic tuff to the 'Pool of Mirrors' hot pool at the bottom. Orakei Korako boasts the most active geysers of any geothermal park in New Zealand. Up to 23 active natural geysers play freely through the area, which is constantly changing. Marvel at the number of boiling hot springs and the vibrant colours all around you, or take a native bushwalk through this untouched geothermal paradise.

What an amazing place to visit, a bit of a drive from our accommodation in Rotorua but most definitely well worth the journey. The landscape and geothermal wonders were awe striking. Will visit again… Full review by Ashley H

Visited October 2022. We did the self guided option, taking the boat across and spending over an hour exploring the thermal pools and terrain. Super interesting and stunning landscape. Full review by lachlantm

Off the beaten path. Great experience. It was cool to see the theme exhibits. The hot pools were very interesting. Wish there had been more geysers, but still really interesting. Full review by TexasHomey

Not as strong as Rotorua but yes there is a lingering smell. Something you can't escape at their geothermal parks.

Hi, it says that the last boat leave 4.30. What time is the last boat going back? We will arrive at 4 and would love to go and see the gejsers. Is it possible?
A:
The boat runs on demand. It takes about 3 minutes to get across. Also you could be there all day and you will not see a geyser erupt

Hi I do not think this park offers picku-up return service from Taupo. My family went to Taupo in last June from Wellington by Intercity Bus. We do not drive. I also did research before we left but there are no any buses or shuttles taking us from Taupo central to this park. We found it is quite difficult to travel to the local attractions around Taupo area without having your own transport. Therefore we went to this park as part of the guided day tour with Alex from "Real Kiwi Tours (Taupo)" and had a very wonderful time. You might consider having the tour or just hire a car in Taupo.
