Shekhawati is a region in Northern India that comprises Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, Marwari merchants and Shekhawat kings built grand havelis in the Shekhawati region. Rich in wealth, affluence, and artistic expression, these merchants sought to outdo each other by building increasingly grand structures, including houses, temples, and stepwells. All of these structures were richly adorned with painted murals, both inside and out.
