I did not personally book anything so I’m not sure of the process for that. We were with evergreen adventures tour and flew trans Guyana airways out of Correia airport. We flew first to kaieteur which was around an hour plus flight. then after our time at kaieteur we flew to oronduik falls. Not as impressive height wise but we could swim in the river. That was a lot of fun. It’s on the border of Brazil and several of our group swam to the Brazil side. Our guide said technically if you are in the middle, you are in Brazil. It’s remote so there are no border crossings or anything. The Flight there was less than an hour then it was around two plus hours back to Georgetown. The excursion took all day. We arrived back in Georgetown at sunset. The lunch at kaieteur was huge, which was quite a change from our hotel fare, which was never quite enough for our group.

So this trip is definitely not the easiest to do. But there are two main bus "parks" in Georgetown. They are the major streets with lines of shuttle vans (off High street around Brickdam st). You are going to want to ask the drivers which ones head to Tumatumari. Keep in mind the bus areas are insane and people will grab your bags in order to get you in their vehicle. Vehicles only leave Georgetown once filled past capacity so the drivers are earning enough money. In Tumatumari we got out of the van and asked some locals to help us find someone by the name of "Johnny " that is a river guide. We met up with him and his sons and they explained how they would take us up the river, how much It would cost, and how long it would take. We did book flights back in advance, and paid the national parks office for our stay in the jungle lodge before heading out of Georgetown.

You can do it, but tell the guide that you will have to walk slower and take breaks in between. You can see the Falls without the guide at your own pace, but it is always nice to hear background stories. I would say, just talk to the guide about your issue. He will think of a way to help you. These are really nice people! Enjoy!
