Gorgeous place with a huge body of water, marble tiles, and a fun “I love NY” sign on the outside. Expect lots of walking inside - it’s quite a big building. Full review by Princes5xo

The building is incredible. It may not be to everyone’s liking because parts are dark, gothic and heavy feeling but, you can’t argue with the incredible architecture, intricate designs and size. It h… Full review by Susan D

This a beautiful building inside and out. The area where it is located had a welcoming feeling. It is limited in seeing the inside but doesn't detour from the history. Full review by 1991KEB

Oh boy I remember them covering this on our tour. Here is the answer on Wikipedia. The central open court is dominated by a shaft intended to support a massive dome. The dome and tower were never completed, as it was found the building's weight was causing stress fractures and making the building shift downhill toward State Street. To stop this movement, a large, 166-foot (51 m) long exterior Eastern Staircase was added to support the front facade.

I don't remember how long the tour of the Capitol building tour was. The tower the other reviewer spoke about is the Corning Tower. It is across the street from the Capitol and part of Empire State Plaza (ESP in local speak). The Capitol building is on the south side of ESP. The State Library is on the north side. The Corning Tower and the Egg are on the west side. State Agency Buildings and the Legislative Office Building (that's the LOB to locals) are on the east side. Between all the building on the Plaza itself are reflecting pools (empty this time of year) and in the winter an ice skating rink. During the Summer, outdoor concerts are held here. This is where 4th of July fireworks happen too. Underneath the State Library is the State Museum. Underneath the Plaza is the Concourse. Weekdays the Concourse has open restaurants, a post office meeting rooms, exhibits, vendors and a few shops. On weekends, usually only the McDonalds is open. The Concourse also has a nice display of modern art. There used to even be an Andy Warhol painting - unsure if the Warhol is still in the collection. Across the street west of the Plaza, on Eagle Street, is the new Convention Center. Cross State Street, one block north of the Convention Center, and you will find City Hall. The street between the Concourse and the museum is Madison Avenue. The Plaza sits on top of Mansion Hill, the hill Albany claims Bobsledding was founded on. Mansion Hill is part of Albany's Mansion neighborhood where one block east of the Plaza on Eagle Street, you will find the Governors Mansion. People confuse the Governor Mansion and the Capitol. Compact, easily walkable area...
